March Open Board Meeting

The March open board meeting will take place on Thursday March 10, 2005 at the usual time and place.

New Board President

Becky YeamansBoard member Becky Yeamans has agreed to take on the responsibilities (and title) of Association president. Having worked tirelessly for the Association since her election mid-2004, Becky has contributed much to help ensure the smooth transition from builder to Association. To learn more about President Yeamans, see the Resident Focus section of the Web site.

New Board Members

In addition to a new president, we are happy to announce that both Marilyn Cuykendall and Katerina Quinterno have accepted positions on the Board. Both bring valuable experience and expertise to the table, and we're happy to welcome both on board. Here are a few words from our new Board members:

Marilyn Cuykendall

Marilyn CuykendallI was born and raised in Michigan and moved to NJ in 1975. I lived in Mendham for 25 years raising two kids and two dogs. Not sure if I had kids to keep the dog company or the reverse. My daughter is single and living in Washington DC.  My son graduated from college last May and is still trying to find his way in the world. He is living with me at Morris Place with plans to move out momentarily.

I work as a business administrator for a public school district and will work about 3-5 more years. I am in college to finish my masters degree, probably by December 2005.

I like to run in the summer and go to the gym in the winter. I rollerblade or bike or hike and walk; anything but get in a car over the weekend. Cars seem too much like going to work. I am waiting to take tennis lessons at Twin Oaks. Started twice before but never followed through.

My hardest adjustment to the empty nest days is the absence of a dog. I had two, one at a time, with both living thirteen years. However, I am not ready to give up the freedom of no responsibilities - yet.

Katerina Quinterno

Katerina QuinternoFrancesco and I (Katerina) relocated to New Jersey approximately five years ago, compliments of Colgate - Palmolive for whom Francesco works as a business analyst. We are both first generation South Africans born of Italian and Greek parents, respectively. We are each conversant in our particular "mother" tongue and also speak a little Afrikaans and Zulu. We have enjoyed growing up in the unrivalled beauty of the African landscape and during an incredible period of South African history: the demise of Apartheid. We all remember Francesco Quinterno where we were when Nelson Mandelas was released from prison and the ensuing 'first free election.' We both attended the same university where Francesco graduated as an Industrial Engineer and I completed a law degree. Following our arrival in the USA, I continued to pursue my legal credentials by attending Fordham Laws School in NY where I read for an L.L.M. and subsequently became a member of the NY Bar. Though not presently engaged in the practice of Law, I am working for a mortgage bank in central NJ and would certainly not pass up the opportunity to invite fellow community members (and their extended network of friends and family) to consult with me for all your home financing needs. Aside from the bitterly cold weather spells, we have become very comfortable living in NJ and now also enquire of others: "Off which exit on the turnpike do you live?"

Independent Auditor's Report

At the January open board meeting, Marie Mirra, Certified Public Accountant of Mirra & Associates, presented her Independent Auditor's Report of the Association's Financial Statements as of June 30, 3004. Ms. Mirra found everything to be in order, but recommended that the board investigate higher interest-paying options for the community's funds.

The entire report will sent to residents when we receive the official copy from Mirra & Associates. In the meantime, you can download the draft report from the Web site.

Parking Permit Stickers

Parking permit stickers have been sent to residents who registered their vehicles with the Association. You are required to affix the permit stickers to the bottom left corner of your vehicle's rear window, on the outside.

If you registered vehicles and did not receive your permit stickers, please contact the Community Management office.

A Word on Dog Poop

Being a responsible dog owner in Morris Place is a challenge. We are a small community without an abundance of green space to exercise our dogs or specific areas for our dogs to relieve themselves. Nevertheless, residents are reminded that Morris Place is a pooper-scooper community.

During the winter months there has been a dramatic increase in dog waste not being picked up and discarded. This is distasteful and annoying for all residents who walk through the community and also presents a potential public health risk.

The Morris Place rules and regulations specifically state that all dog owners must immediately pick up dog waste and dispose of it properly. Please be reminded that dog waste is not to be put into storm drains or stored in containers left on common areas such as driveways or sidewalks.

Residents who have left dog waste on common areas are requested to immediately pick up and properly dispose of it.

Enforcement of Rules and Regulations

Beginning March 1, 2005, all rules and regulations of the community will be enforced – including towing of illegally parked cars and propane gas tank inspections by Fire Inspector.

A print copy of the rules and regulations and copies of each resolution will be sent to residents in February. The rules and regulations are also available in previous issues of the Association newsletter and in the Rules and Regulations section of the Web site.

Proposal to have M&M Powerwash the Community

At the request of several residents, the board and management company has been looking into whether M&M is legally obligated to carry out the proposed powerwash of the community. The short answer is no, given the potential risks associated with water infiltration and other damage.
